Beatty named to Team Canada for 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championship

Yukon’s Dahria Beatty is one of 10 skiers that will represent Canada at the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championship in Oberstdorf, Germany, from Feb. 23 to March 7.
Nordiq Canada announced the team in a press release on Feb. 19, naming five men and five women.
While typically qualifiers for the World Championships would be held in Canada prior to competition, the cancellation of major domestic competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic led to selections being based on results from this season’s World Cup stops.
Joining Beatty are Katherine Stewart-Jones, Maya MacIsaac-Jones, Cendrine Browne, Laura Leclair, Russell Kennedy, Graham Ritchie, Rémi Drolet, Antoine Cyr and Philippe Boucher.
Kate Boyd, high performance director for Nordiq Canada, said the season hasn’t been easy for athletes and officials.
“Travelling and competing during these times has not been easy, however, each of our national team athletes have shown their resilience and adaptability through this adversity,” Boyd said. “We look forward to now shifting our focus to performing on the biggest stage of the year at the World Championships.
This year marks the third time Oberstdorf has played host to the World Championships. The most recent occassion was in 2005, when Sara Renner won Canada’s first-ever World Championship medal.
