Dozens compete in Twister race

The Dog Powered Sports Association of the Yukon hosted the third Winterlong Twister Race of the season on March 20, 2022, along the Copper Haul Trail. The race featured three categories – 10 miles, three miles, and three miles for U16 competitors – and included skijoring, canicross and dog sledding.

Weather on the day hovered near freezing with not a cloud in the sky, making excellent conditions for spectators and mushers if a bit warm for many of the dogs.

In the 14-entry 10-mile race, Katherine Scheck set the pace with a total time of 39 minutes and 50 seconds. Second place went to Lindsay Caskenette with a time of 42 minutes and 55 seconds. Rounding out the top three was Jonathan Lucas with a time of 43 minutes and 36 seconds.

The three-mile adult race included five competitors, with Nadele Flynn winning in a time of 11 minutes and 38 seconds. Eivind Kaltenborn was second in 12 minutes and 54 seconds, followed by Sarah Gallo third in 15 minutes and six seconds.

In the three-mile race for competitors under 16, Darwin took top spot with a time of 12 minutes and 30 seconds. Juniper Deline was second in 13 minutes and 18 seconds, and Aven finished third in 13 minutes and 40 seconds.

Carter finished an incredibly close fourth, with a time of 13 minutes and 41 seconds.
